Danzig is a heavy metal band founded by vocalist Glenn Danzig in 1987 after his departure from The Misfits and Samhain.
The original lineup consisted of Chuck Biscuits on drums, John Christ on guitar, Eerie Von on bass, and Glenn Danzig on vocals. Though technically could be classified as heavy metal, their first albums have profound influences of blues. Glenn Danzig's voice is serious, deep and powerful, with a timbre that recalls some of his songs to Elvis Presley or Jim Morrison. Their music is inspired by Satanism is sometimes slow and full of letters and dark environments that closely resemble the Gothic movement, even though many do not properly fall within it, while having the power of metal. The critics often consider the previous bands Danzig (Misfits and Samhain), as precursors of the Gothic, though clearly prior thereto.
